Non-Smoking hotel room in Rome?

Hello, we're going on our first trip to Italy in October. We'll be staying in Rome for 4 nights and I have asthma so am trying to find a non-smoking hotel (or at least a non-smoking room) in Rome, preferale near the Pantheon but we can be flexible about that. I have searched the Traveler's Helpline and not had any luck. I also searched online and found only one hotel that is listed as non-smoking that is included in the Rick Steves 2009 Italy book, the Hotel Nazionale.

Can anyone recommend ano other hotels in Rome that offer non-smoking rooms?

Any thoughts, ideas, etc. would be great!

All of the hotels we have used had non-smoking rooms because that is what we always request. That is not that unusual request. We have stayed in the Aberdeen, Sonya, and Contilla. However, if you require the whole hotel to be non-smoking then that could be a problem.

Maybe I am completely wrong on this and if so I sincerely apologize but I thought there were new/recent laws in Italy regarding non-smoking in hotels. All of my hotels in Italy 2 years ago were explicitly non-smoking, and I didn't have to request a non-smoking room to get those rooms. I'm sure my hotel in Venice cited some kind of law saying why smoking wasn't allowed. In any case, Shannon, just contact hotels that look interesting to you and ask. I really am confident you'll have no trouble finding a non-smoking room or hotel in Italy. I'm mildly allergic to cigarette smoke and had no trouble in Italy at all, including 5 days in Rome. Good luck!

The first time I went to Rome the cigarette smoke was incredible in restaurants and in hotel rooms. I've noticed a big change over the past few years and during my trip last fall most rooms were designated non-smoking. I always stay at the Hotel Italia Roma which is on the Via Nazionale and is within walking distance of the Coliseum and lots of other sights. They have non-smoking rooms that are really non-smoking - not just sprayed to cover up the smell. The staff is terrific too!

Debra,
The law in Italy prohibits smoking in all public areas of hotels (hallways, breakfast rooms, lounges, etc.). Some hotels have decided to use this law as a reason to go smoke free in all areas.

We stayed at the Hotel Due Torri about a 5 minute walk from the Pantheon. It was a nice small boutique hotel on a tiny street, and it was all non-smoking and air conditioned. We really enjoyed this little hotel. The staff was very accommodating.

We stayed at the Target Inn at the end of July and it was fabulous! The hotel was non-smoking and it's not too far of a walk to the Pantheon.
