No ticket available during our stay for Colosseum

Hi all,
First time traveler to Italy. We are staying in Rome for 3 days and 5 in Amalfi.
It’s a last min plan. Ticket for Colosseum is completely sold out all 3 days.
Any suggestion how we can get tickets without breaking banks?
Any other attraction you recommend as a must see?

Thank you for you advice,

If willing to stand in line, there are two ticket offices nearby: at Piazza del Colosseo and Largo Salara Vecchia.

I would plan to get there well before they open to reduce potential time standing around, and to be more sure of landing some of the tickets allocated for that day. Have your passports in hand and your entire party with you: tickets are nominative and will be checked against your personal info at the entrance.

"Starting from the 18th October 2023 the Parco archeologico del Colosseo has arranged for the opening of an additional ticket office, located at Largo della Salara Vecchia, for the sale of admission tickets destined exclusively to individual non-mediated visitors, until daily availability is exhausted. The availability of tickets on sale at the ticket offices in Piazza del Colosseo and Largo Salara Vecchia will be doubled. Also as of the 18th October 2023, the obligation of nominative tickets will be extended to all types of tickets available on the sales website, at the call centre and at the physical ticket offices. Your proof of identity must be kept on hand at the Park entrances together with the purchased ticket. Please be advised in order to avoid queues forming."

The 2 offices mentioned above are official ticket sellers for this attraction, and the 24-hr Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ticket is the least expensive available for purchase. It will not get you into the underground or arena sections of the Colosseum but any ticket involving the underground is very, very difficult to get, and you can see down into the uncovered parts from sections above so I wouldn't stress about it. I'm not even sure they sell tickets that include the underground at the on-site offices as you're not allowed access to that part without a tour or accompaniment of Coopculture staff.

You didn't mention the dates of your trip? Is it possible tickets just aren't on sale for those dates yet?
Must-sees? Entirely up to personal interest: Ancient Rome/archeology; art; Christian history and landmarks; architecture, etc.

As Kathy said, when you are you traveling? You cannot purchase tickets for the Colosseum direct until 30 days prior to your visit, so they might showing as sold out because you can't purchase them yet.

That said -- there SO MUCH to do in Rome it's ridiculous. And a "must see" really depends on you -- what do you like? Do you like art? Architecture/design? Old stuff? What era of history? Eating? Churches? Wine? We've never been to Rome, have 2.5 days there and while we're planning on going to the Colosseum if we can get tickets, we have more 'must see's' on our list than we could possibly do in 2.5 days. So if we can't get those tickets I know we'll be a tiny bit disappointed, but we certainly aren't going to be sitting around with no alternates.

We haven't booked anything in Amalfi. So any suggestion there?

We will be in Rome March 31 - April 3rd.

OK, your challenge here is that the 31st is Easter Sunday, the 1st is Easter Monday, and your trip is a little over a week away.

The 2nd is right on the heels of that very big, busy holiday in Rome. That's just one of the reasons you're not seeing any ticket availability online: they sold out in a hurry. As well, the Vatican Museums - the 2nd biggest attraction in Rome - is closed both Easter Sunday and Monday April 1, pushing more tourists to other attractions like the Colosseum. You could haunt the Coopculture website in the coming days and see if any tickets free up but I'm guessing if you want them you're going to have to stand in line.

The Amalfi Coast is going to be VERY busy as well. Get onto booking.com and see what you can find that's still available within your price range.

Carrie, what a great way to look at it! You bet, there are more interesting things to see in Rome than you could cover in months, let alone days, so you'll be spoiled for choice if many appeal. Just the vast array of churches provides terrific sightseeing as a lot of them are architectural treasures with valuable works of art, and most are free.

I see from past threads that you're going to the Borghese (great choice; 99% sure those tickets are gone for the OPs dates tho) and are staying at the Beehive? I'm looking forward to your trip report of that one as while we've not stayed there yet, I've been recommending it for a long time based on years of top-notch reviews. :O)
