No relief from stinky garbage in Naples

Officials in Naples fear the city's current garbage crisis may worsen with the planned weekend closure of the only working dump in the area and piles of trash growing higher.

The bleak assessment comes a day after President Giorgio Napolitano warned that Naples risked an "ecological and health disaster" unless authorities worked out where to put tonnes of garbage that have been piling up for nearly two weeks.

Goodness, what a waste. They have the perfect solution rising out their back doors. Haul it up Vesuvius to fill in the hole, If they are lucky maybe the heat will even incinerate it!

I hope they are able to resolve this situation. I am planning to be in Rome June 7-10, and then take the train to Naples. While we are basing during that time out of both Sorrento and Pompeii, I'd hate the "ambience" available to us in Naples.
