No more train strike on May 19

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Matteo Salvini has just ordered railway workers back to work for May 19, 2024 to prevent disruptions during the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Imola.

Italian law allows the Prime Minister or a Minister delegated by the PM to cancel a strike and order workers back to work in extraordinary circumstances when a strike violates the basic fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution or when the national interest is at stake.

Since going to an important sports event, such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix, constitutes a fundamental human right guaranteed by the Italian Constitution, and any impediment to its enjoyment could cause disruption of the public order and lawlessness the strike scheduled for May 19 is thereby canceled.

Happy travels!

F1 clearly carries some weight.

The 19th of May is also the end of Week 2 of the Giro d’Italia three-week bicycle race, a very big deal in bike racing, as one of the three “Grand Tours” in the world. I wonder whether the Giro is viewed with the same significance as an F1 automobile race?

oooo and that stage is in the mountains, that poses more difficulty of getting around if NOT by trains because of the road closures.....

I would HOPE that it would carry the same weight, but I doubt it.....that's going to be a GOOD stage....
