I saw a post on Facebook this morning from Walks of Itay that the Borghese Gallery no longer has a 2 hour limit on visits. I could not verify this from their own site, but feel pretty confident that Walks of Italy would not have posted it if it were not so.
I looked at the site, and it still shows a two-hour period for the ticket
I'd like to know where WOI got the information (if anyone finds something 'official' on this?) Like Laura, I'm not seeing it on the Borghese website. Then again, their ticketing website (ticketone) isn't always accurate: for instance, it still states that you have to check cameras when photography has been allowed in state museums since 2014.
I'm not seeing this mentioned on the English or the Italian version of the site. Both still state it's a two hour maximum. The Italian version doesn't state that you must check cameras anymore, only video cameras. The only new information I see is that starting on the 9th on Wednesdays after 5pm there will be a special reduced price ticket. This information is also on the 060608 website.
Donna
Donna, this is from the ticketone website (English) linked from the Galleria Borghese website:
"For detailed information about the visit of the Museum and Borghese Gallery click here"
http://www.ticketone.it/obj/media/IT-eventim/pdf/en/galleria-borghese-5.pdf
"Wardrobe:
It is mandatory to deposit any kind of bag, helmet, camera, recording device, umbrella, stroller."
That's why it might be doggone confusing for people?
The Italian version only states "video camera" not regular camera. I understand there may be confusion but neither the Italian site nor the English site says anything about lifting the 2 hour restriction. The 060608 page is up to date so if it's not there I would have to assume it's just a rumor.
Donna
I saw that the camera thing was out of date on the English version of the 60608 site as well, Donna. Baffling. And weird that neither site say anything - in any language - about lifting the time restriction. I figure if you or Roberto or others of the Rome experts can't find it....
I will try to call both Borghese Gallery and Walks of Italy tomorrow to figure this out, since I posted it. I'll let you know what I find out.
Kathy, I think they update the Italian language sites more often then the English versions. Both the Italian language versions say that no video cameras are allowed but don't mention regular cameras. If I find out anything about the time restrictions I will post it but I honestly don't see how they could do this with the limited capacity they can have.
Donna
Me either, Donna. Thanks for making the effort to dig around on this!
I was there last June. Two hour time slot. Really, it's just enough time anyway.
Well, I just called the ticket office and they do still have the 2 hour limit, so that answers that. Sorry, I forgot to ask about the camera issue. Not sure where WOI got their info.
Thanks for all your input.
Well done! Thanks for going the extra mile to set things straight!
I wouldn't worry about the camera issue: non-flash photography has been allowed in all state museums since July 1, 2014; same time as the minister of culture declared free first-of-the-month Sundays. This may not apply to temporary exhibits, though.
Good info, va from va; both the original change from WOI, and for making the call today. Thanks for helping me.
