I plan to drive from Grenoble 2, to Turin2, Como3, Balzano4, Venice3, Ravena2,Florence3 and fly home from Florence. These numbers are the full days not including travel time.
Your thoughts Please.
Looks like fun, however it is suppose to be really expensive to rent a car in one country and drop it off in another. What does your research show?
Yes, costly to pick up and drop off cars in different countries.
If you’re starting in Grenoble, take the train or FlixBus to Torino and rent a car when you leave the city. Aside from an expensive international drop charge of several hundred euro, tolls alone from Grenoble to Torino are over €75.
I think your trip sounds great though I have no idea why you’re starting in Grenoble. If that’s not set in stone, I’d start in Torino. If you want mountains, head northwest on a day trip through Val d’Aosta to Courmayeur and hop the Skyway Monte Bianco. Another great area to explore would be the Langhe region of the Piedmont around Alba. If you do drive from Bolzano to Venice, take the Great Dolomites Road to Cortina d’Ampezzo before turning south to Venice.
Make sure you go to AAA and get your international driver permit and familiarize yourself with the dreaded and costly ZTL’s in Italian cities.
To look up fuel cost and tolls between your stops use...
For The afire mentioned ZTLs plus signage and speed limits use this and download their e book

By slightly altering your route you would be able to drop a lease vehicle in Milan. Leaving Como till the end.
