Night Train: Venice-Rome

We will be spending 10 days in Italy in June/July, and to make the most of our last day, would like to take the night train from Venice to Rome, or maybe from Verona to Rome. Our flight is out of Rome at 10:15 am, so we could arrive in the early am hours and just go straight to the airport. Are there trains that take 6-7 hours overnight and are there sleeping cars? Is this a good idea?

I would not want to count on the train arriving on time in Rome to catch my flight home. My advice would be to take the train the day before and spend your last night in Rome. this way you are sure to make your flight. The overnight trains make a lot of stops and I don't know how much rest you would get anyway. I wouldn't risk it.

Thanks Donna-we have decided against the night train!

Thanks, guys for your help. We have decided to make our tour of Rome the last 2 1/2 days of our trip, (instead of the first 2 days and then just trying to get back for our flight.) That eliminates the decision of whether to take the night train or not-thanks!
