Has any one taken the train from Sorrento-Naples-Caserta-Foggia-Venice? What are the speeping car accomadations on the Foggia-Venice leg? Where do you catch the Naples-Caserta connection, what train station?
The train you wish to take from Naples to Caserta originates at Napoli Campi Flegrei and stops at several stations in Naples, including Napoli Piazza Garibaldi (lower level of Napoli Centrale) which is one of the stops for the Circumvesuviana from Sorrento.
There is no night train from Sorrento. There is only a little commuter train called the Circumvesuviana. It connects you with Naples where you probably would have better luck finding a night train.
Thanks Tim, the actual night train runs from Foggia up the coast to Venice. The connection is thru Naples on the private line you mentioned.
Actually, the DIRECT night train departs from Napoli Centrale at 19:57 and arrives in Venezia S. Lucia at 5:26, and it routed through Rome, Florence and Bologna.
You have a variety of accommodations to choose from, from cheap second class seats (45.50 Euros each) to C4 quad couchettes (69.80 Euros each), to twin sleeping compartments (94.30 Euros per person). These fares can be discounted up to 30% by booking at least 15 days in advance. If you choose a couchette compartment, you'll be sharing with strangers.
Note that this particular night train (an ICN), as contrasted to several other night trains, does NOT lend itself to a restful night, because of its numerous stops all throughout the night.
You would take the Circumvesuviana commuter rail from Sorrento to Naples to connect to this ICN train to Venice.
Have you considered flying? There are low-cost operators on this route, with very attractive fares.
