Would like to take the night train from Sorrento to Bologna. I understand we'd probably need to go to Naples then onto the night train. Heard that the Excelsior Sleeper has great compartments and goes from Naples to Udine. Does it stop in Bologna? Any other thoughts or suggestions on night train travel? Thanks.

ICN 774 does stop in Bologna on its way to Udine, but it leaves Napoli at 19:57 and arrives at Bologna at 03:16.
You'll get a better night's sleep if you take the E 830 which leaves Napoli at 21:50 and arrives at Bologna at 05:52. This train only has 4- and 6-bunk couchettes. No sleepers. Book a 4-bunk couchette for the extra elbow room and luggage storage space.
