I am having trouble finding an ovenight train from Paris to get to nothern Italy with NO stops. Occasionally I see information about an Artesia train to venice nonstop, but it seems other sites say this route doesn't exist.
Thanks for any suggestions on getting my family to Italy
www.bahn.de shows a train from Paris Bercy to Venice leaving at 8:33 pm to Venice with no changes.
We did that trip last November. Try this link: http://www.voyages-sncf.com/billet-train/resultats?hid=PVX Good luck.
By no stops you mean no changes, right? The train starts and stops all night, and makes station stops several times too, but you don't have to get off.
According to the timetables on the German Rail site, the direct Paris-Venice night train runs through 1 May. Beginning on 2 May the timetables show that it is necessary to take the direct Paris-Rome night train as far as Bologna and connect there to a train to Venice. That's a 14.5-hour ride. The French Rail site also doesn't list the direct Paris-Venice night train beyond 1 May. Beyond that date it suggests taking a CNL night train to Munich, connecting to a train to Verona, and finally connecting to a train to Venice. That's an 18-hour ride. The Italian Rail site lists the direct night train up to the second week of June when the semi-annual European timetable changes will take place. However, since Trenitalia is notoriously slow in updating their timetables, I wouldn't count on the direct night train running beyond 1 May. According to the German Rail timetables, the direct night train doesn't stop between Dole Ville (23:47) and Milano Centrale (05:38). It makes five stops between Milano Centrale and Venezia Santa Lucia, the last one being Venezia Mestre. If the direct night train indeed will be cancelled, I'm guessing it's because the growth of budget airlines has lessened the appeal of night trains.
And, in the "good old days," you had to present your passport at each border crossing. If you want NO stops, Paris to Venice, buy a plane ticket. Day trains with a change in Milano are standard, but that 15 minutes allowed for getting to the the next train may not exist. The last time I went this route, the Paris-Milan train was late and I missed my connection. I caught a train to Verona and then another to Venice. This added a couple of hours to the trip. The next time I went to Venice from Paris, I flew.
The experts at Budget Europe Travel Service should know the answer to this question. Call them. Their service is free.
I am also going from Paris to Venice and I elected to fly easyjet. It is cheap and way faster than the train. I would suggest that you look into it.
