Our group will be arriving in Rome around 4 pm from the States, and figure to be at hotel with private driver around 5:30 pm.
Someone suggested we do the night tour of the Vatican, but they only do those on Friday nights - the same night we arrive. I am wondering if we would be just too tired or is it worth pushing onward and doing it anyhow?
I would not risk this. You would be cutting it close and yes, be too tired. There is a early morning tour many operators offer that is excellent. We enjoyed that. I would plan that one
I'll agree with Diane: the museums are too much to try and manage right off an international flight. A walk in the fresh air to some nearby outdoor attractions is a better choice. Buying advance tickets for Friday would also be risky should your flight be delayed, and even if all goes well, hitting the hotel by 5:30 is optimistic.
It would be very ambitious and making it to your hotel by 5:30 pm is a crapshoot at best. It can take that long to get off the plane and through passport control.
We just returned from Italy. I agree with other posters that you would cut it too close. It took us awhile to get through the Rome Airport upon arrival. We did the Walks of Italy Pristine Sistine Tour. It does require you to rise early but after seeing the crowds during the day, even the skeptical hubby was glad we got an early start. 😊
