Night tour of the Colosseum

We were looking at doing a night time tour of the Colosseum and wondering if it is worth the extra price. The reviews seem to be quite good. Is there any particular tour company that is more reliable than others?

Thank you!

Holly, I haven't done a night tour but you can't get any more "reliable" than the one offered through the official website. It also includes the underground, and you won't find a 3rd party night tour for even close to the € 24 price. Third party operators - while some are very good - all vie for the pool of tickets allotted for external group sales, and overbooking tours (meaning selling them before they actually have enough tickets), while relatively rare, has been known to occur.

The two drawbacks are that this tour sells out very, very quickly, and the entry ticket doesn't cover visits to the Palatine and Forum like most others of the daytime tours/tickets do.

Thanks Kathy for your reply and the links! I didn’t see the night tour option on the Colosseum official website! Yes the price is much better. Do I understand correctly that you have to wait for the Monday of week you want to go to purchase the tickets? Or can you buy tickets on Mondays for future dates in the next months? Right now on the date I want to go, it has tabs for each time that says “no availability”. So I’m not sure whether this is because October dates are not open yet or are already booked up.

This is what the website states:

Every Monday it will be possible to pre-purchase tickets for Colosseum
by night online and by call center for the following week.

So, if all the slots for the date you want are currently full, then you need to try to get tickets on the Monday the week before your trip. It doesn't say you can buy them on Mondays for weeks any further in advance than that. As they aren't specific about TIME the Monday tickets become available, I'd be online or on the phone at 9:00 AM ROME TIME when the office opens.
