Night flight from Milan can I stay in Padua or Verona day of?

After our Heart of Italy tour, we are staying in Venice for 3 nights and we had planned to stay in Milan to fly to Dublin, but the flight doesn't leave until 10pm. Should we stay in Padua or Verona or Vincenza for a night on our way to the Milan Airport ? We are in our 50's interested in art and music, not shopping. I am afraid that if we stay in another town we might not make the flight. But I am more interested in the smaller cities. Which city do you prefer? We will be traveling by train or bus. Thanks.

I spent time in all 3 in 2012, and would nominate Padova as my preference. Just on 2 hours by train to Milan, so leave around 4pm for a 10pm flight.

Milan has three airports, as far as the airlines are concerned, so make sure you go to the right one. There's Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Bergamo Orio Al Serio, in order (farthest to closest) from Padova/Vicenza/Verona.

That's tough to miss and take a 10 pm flight.

But stay in Verona if you are there around June-July 2017 they have opera (if you like that kind of music)

in the roman amphitheater there;

Stay in Vicenza if you are interested in Palladian architecture.

I was faced with similar dilemma (flying out of Milan MXP on May 16 2017) and after researching hotels In Verona, Padua, or Vicenza settled on Vicenza

oh yeah and I assume you are taking the train, it is about 2 hours by train from either of the 3 cities and then another hour more or less to the airport MXP
