nice to livorno

We are traveling from Nice to Lucca and then on to Montepulciano in September 2018. Due to the recent tragedy in Genoa with the bridge, we now we are going to get a lot of traffice getting through Genoa and on the route in to Lucca are willing to be patient howevere we are looking for alternative routes to return from Montepulciano to Nice. We have been trying to get info on taking the ferry from Livorno to Corsica and then on to Nice. Not sure if it will save any time ( or money) but it might be fun. Just finding it really hard to figure out cost and time...
Anyone able to give me some advice....
Thanks
Jen

Are you driving a rental car?

Does the agency permit the car to be ferried?

I'd consider renting a car and dropping it on the Italian side of the border, but I have no idea what detour to suggest around Genoa, and the best routes would be well know by all the Italians on the road.

Easyjet flies to Nice from Venice and Rome. Vueling flies to Nice from Rome.

I mention those other options because I suspect the ferries will be slow and rather costly.

No need to go to the trouble. Just make it a point to arrive around Genoalate in the morning or very early afternoon, when it’s not rush hour. The traffic has been detoured to the Aurelia (SS1) along the port. I’m sure during the day there will be delays, so instead of 4 hours, it might take you 5 hours to drive from Nice to Lucca, but that delay would not be enough to justify 7 hours on a ferry to Corsica and another 4 hours from Corsica to Livorno (with no guarantee the connections are even feasible).
