We are flying into Nice then onto Cinque Terre, Lucca, Venice and Italian Lakes with departure out of Milan. It seems the hardest part is Nice to Cinque Terre. Any suggestions regarding this itinerary?
Yes, it involves some one or likely two train transfers, to see the train schedules go here and follow the link to the Bahn site.
It's not really hard. It simply a 6.0hr journey and 1-2 train changes (mostly 2) from Nice Ville to Monterosso. The trains are almost all Regionale trains. A few InterCity (IC) trains but mostly Regionale. These trains make every stop. The Trenitalia webisite does not show high-speeds making this run.
howard, That's actually a very easy trip, however as the others have mentioned it will be about 5-6 hours. You'll depart from Nice Ville and there will almost certainly be a change at Ventimiglia (near the border). There will also likely be a change at Genova Piazza Principe, although there are some direct trains from Ventimiglia to Monterosso. The trip from Genova to Monterosso is about 1H:15M, and slightly longer to the other towns. Which of the five villages are you planning to stay in? Happy travels!
