Nice to Civitavecchia

My husband and I are doing the southern France tour in October where it ends in Nice. We have 5 days before we need to get to Civitavecchia. What should we do? We've been to all the major cities so we're looking for something different. We like the cinque terra and wouldn't mind spending some time there. We've been to Lake Como and would like to see a different lake. All suggestions are welcomed!

Since the Cinque Terra are approximately half way between Nice and Civitavecchia, I think you have your answer.

Have you been to Santa Margherita/Portofino/Rapallo? or to Lucca?

A lake location like Stresa is a detour from the main path and takes 8 hours by train from Nice, with two connections; or if you picked up a car on the Italian side of the border in San Remo, then you could drive there in about 4 hours.

Take the coastal route and visit the places suggested above (Cinque Terre, Pisa+Lucca).
The only lake along the way is the Lago di Massaciuccoli. But aside from being the place where Giacomo Puccini had his house, it's not that impressive. A bit south of Civitavecchia is Lake Bracciano, which is nice. However you only have 5 days, so stick to the other places. There is enough water to see along the way.
