Nice place to stay in Rome?

I am arriving on a Friday in Rome, and am looking for a nice, moderately priced hotel for my husband and I. Any suggestions?

Thank you!!

I'm sure you'll get some suggestions posted but also try venere and trip advisor websites. I always use them and find then really good especially the comments from people who have stayed in the hotels.

My husband and I stayed in the Hotel Due Torri (on RS recommendation) in July 2005, and loved it. It is located on a tiny side street, and yet close to everything. The room was charming, and the staff were very helpful.

We also stayed in the Albergo Santa Chiara (also a RS recommendation), just behind the Pantheon. This location is even more central, and the hotel was lovely although the room lacked the charm of the Due Torri.

I would stay in either one again.

My wife and I have stayed at the Hotel Columbia 2 different times and are extremely pleased. In July and August their rate is 170 Euro but if you tell them you got their name from Frommers book on Rome they will give it to you for 160 Euro.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Lancelot the spring of 2006. It is family-run, very clean, very friendly, good breakfast and supper, quiet area, and about a 5-min. walk from the Colosseum. Also, it has a lift. :)

Katie,
My daughter and I stayed at Hotel Paba (RS recommended) in 2004. It was very nice. Small, but nice. 2 minutes to Coliseum, 5 minutes to ancient ruins, and various churches. 10 minutes by cab to St. Peters. The lady that runs the hotel (owner) is very very nice and helpful.

Try the Hotel Aberdeen. It's in Rick's Rome book if I'm not mistaken. I've stayed there once, as has my sister's family. Not too far from train station and subway, very secure (next to police station), clean and generally nice. Price includes a great breakfast.

Katie,

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Lancelot for 6 nights in fall 2005. I loved walking by the coliseum every day. The people at the front desk gave us good recommendations for restaurants, a travel agency where we bought train tickets to Pompeii, and loaned me a curling iron. They had a hair dryer in the room. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

I've stayed at Residenza Cellini...wonderful place and Hotel Santa Chiara..good location. I wouldn't say moderately priced, but what is in Rome. Check out venere.com and read user reviews and prices. Sounds like you are looking to stay in a 3 star hotel. B&Bs can be less expensive. Again, check the web site I listed above

I agree with Rose. I stayed at Hotel Adler, which was very nice & one floor below Residenza Cellini located in the same building, near the train station.

Any future trips to Rome, Residenza Cellini will be my first choice.

Again, Hotel Adler was very nice, clean, and had a very helpful staff, but Residenza Cellini was a step up.

We hope you had a good time. We went to Rome on 8/20. Hotel Sonya is great. The staff speak English well and all were very helpful, especially Mr. Litu. Newly renovated, the rooms are modern, very comfortable, clean and pleasant. They actually have great king size matresses and comfortable pillows. The breakfasts were great including delicious baked goods, fruit, cereal, yogurt etc. and great cappuccino. The price was moderate and it is an easy walk to the train station, even with luggage. They also offer a very inexpensive shuttle service to and from the airport. There are restaurants and a grocery in the neighborhood. Getting around to sites in Rome from there is easy using the metro.
