Nice or Monte Carlo

We are arriving in Paris from Melbourne and meeting up with our friends in Axe en Provence (with a car) for one night then we have two nights in either Nice or Monte Carlo or Santa Margherita Ligure before driving to Cortona for a week with 5 couples ( aprox age 50). Where would you suggest we spend those two nights? If you have any restaurant/food or other ideas too that would be great .Thank you
Julie

Nice.. because its far more central to popping in and out of little towns.. You can stay in Nice and easily visit Monaco ( its an hour by bus.. likely less by car or train) .. you can stop in Eze.. Villefranche, Cannes, Eze sur Mer, etc etc.. likely a half dozen other good places.. and Nice is in middle with stuff to see and do there too.

Monte Carlo.. very expensive.. very very.. and then you are not as central. Just pop in for the afternoon .. its not a large place as you know.

I like Menton, right at the border with Italy. Very close to Montecarlo, but much cheaper, easier to park and, in my opinion, much prettier.

Another alternative is to stay in Provence for the additional 2 nights instead of just one night, then from there drive to Cortona (Unless you've seen Provence before).

Plan on about 8 hour drive from Provence to Cortona (plus pit stops). From Menton maybe 6+ hours. In any case it's a long drive.
