Nice one night stop before Florence in Tuscany?

Leaving Cinque Terre, after day tripping in Pisa--thinking of a place to stay in a smaller Tuscan town before taking on Florence (already have a couple of nights planned for Siena after Florence. No car--will be traveling by train or bus.

I was also going to suggest Lucca. We are doing the opposite of what you are doing. We are spending a night in Lucca on our way from Florence to CT.

Another vote for Lucca (although it's not exactly a "smaller" Tuscan town).
