I recently stayed at the Desiree Hotel in Florence. Very pleasant and reasonably priced small hotel; located close to the central train station and within easy walking distance of the Duomo and other key sites. The folks who run this hotel are very pleasant and helpful. I paid 60 euros for a single room with private bath; doubles run 75 euros. It was quiet, they served a nice breakfast and the neighborhood is not in the heart of the hectic and noisy part of town. I would stay here again.
