Nice centrally located hotel in Rome.

We are looking for a nice hotel in walking distance of Navonna/Pantheon/Trevi.
We have stayed at two locations before, and while we liked them both, one has closed, and I am looking for options.
the second hotel we stayed at was Hotel Due Torri, just a few steps from Piazza Navonna. Nice, clean, and priced at about 170/night for a double. Can I do better?

Thanks! Jeff

We just made a reservation for the hotel Regno on the via del Corso near the trevi and pantheon. Friends stayed there before and loved it. We are going in February.

Hi Jeff
Was that dollars or euros ?
Also,. nice is a very subjective and vague term. You've listed "clean" and 170/night, which could describe many properties
.
By the way, I doubt anyone here would recommend a dirty or not nice hotel. I think everyone offers the best advice they can. So the more specific you can be, the better the advice.

By doing better, is budget your criteria and you want something for less that 170 ?
So, assuming that everyone will recommend clean and nice suggestions hotels, what else is on your list?

Also, how many people are "we"
How many nights?
Lastly, when is your trip, as that can effect rate as well.

When we visit Rome for more than a day (5 trips in the past) we always stay in the Termini area simply for the convenience of local transit to everywhere. Still pretty walkable to most sites though it is not in the middle. A little more local color than the more American tourist areas. We have used Hotel Sonya and Aberdeen. I think but haven't checked recently they would beat you $170/night. Both have great breakfasts.

With no hesitation I recommend the Hotel Portoghesi. We stayed there on our first trip to Rome about 8 years ago, when it was in no guidebooks and again 18 months ago when we returned to Rome. The location is just wonderful, very convenient and an easy 5 minute walk to the Pantheon, less as I recall to Piazza Navona. The staff are wonderful, the rooms are terrific (a deluxe gives great space and a standard is, certainly acceptable). The rooftop terrace is pretty amazing. Breakfast is served there every morning and if you ask nicely at the desk, they will open it for you to enjoy wine before dinner or after dinner or even for dinner if you have bought food to eat . I have looked online and a standard room is 160E per night in mid-September. That price includes breakfast on the terrace. Here is the hotel website. http://www.hotelportoghesiroma.it/ It is well reviewed on TripAdvisor and Booking.com. Go there, you can not do better for the price.

Sorry about the vague question.

I was trying to be descriptive about Due Torri, to see if anyone had a better option, as in better location or price.
A little more research tells me that I can try something similar and take a chance, or go back to Due Torri and know what I am getting.
Thanks all! If there are any more suggestions, please post them.

Thanks, Jeff

I have stayed at Hotel Regno twice. (2005 and 2013) I was told about this hotel by friends from London.

It is perfect for the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain, as it is in between the two, just two blocks from either one.

I emailed back and forth with Nicola and Giuseppe (info@hotelregno.com) who arranged pick up for us at the airport as well. Saved a lot of time and was nice after the flight. (I think it was 15 Euros for 4 people - 15 to 20 min ride)

I recommend getting a room with a balcony overlooking the side street or alley. After a long day of sightseeing, we would sit out on the balcony and listen to the street musicians, and sip our wine! It does not get much better than that!!! This room might have been a triple?

If you are going to be an American and actually buy a bus ticket, they sell them in that same side street not 50 feet from the front door,,,,, and the bus stops are about 20 feet to the right of the front door.

This is not the Ritz - ok!! The rooms look exactly like what they show on their site, The hotel lobby is 10' by 15' with an elevator that can only fit one person at a time with suitcase. It is a European room, with nice people, and a great location. I would go back.!

Good Luck

Ron

We have stayed at Hotel Fontanella Borghese many times and have always been pleased. While it is not "luxury", it is very nice and the location is great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can walk to Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Nuvona, even Vatican city. It is a "sister hotel" to the Hotel Due Torri and is located just a short way from the Spanish Steps. We always send an email directly with our request for a booking and we get an answer back in 24 hours or less. Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard as rooms overlooking the side street can get noisy. The web site is www.fontanellaborghese.com

Jeff,

As Frank mentioned, I also like to stay in the area around Termini station as it's so convenient for transportation. I don't mind the area, and I'm typically only in the hotel to sleep and shower so the area is not a big concern.

In 2007 I stayed at residenza zanardelli just a block or two north of piazza navona, loved it. They have a lift, breakfast, large rooms for italy.

In 2014 i stayed at imperium suites navona (also just a block or two north), loved this as well; however I don't recall a lift. Harder to find on your own. Breakfast delivered to your room daily when you order in advance the say before. Rooms were a little smaller but very nice. More off the beaten path.

In 2015 i stayed at hotel navona, which is located between piazza navona and pantheon at the south end. Quiet location and perfectly situated in my favorite neighborhood.

All three are under €200 for two people /one room per night including breakfast. All have good ratings and reviews on trip advisor and i would be glad to stay again..
