next week - venice, verona, vicenza, padova and bologna

good afternoon. so excited for my trip next week as I've never been to these cities except for Venice. I've got everything covered except for possible dinner reservations in some of these cities. i am more worried about bologna to be honest than the other cities. last train out of bologna to Venice is 10pm (my home base is Venice for the week). any suggestions for an early dinner in bologna would be great, the less touristy the better. i am by myself so maybe getting a single seat would be easier without reservations? just worried about catching that last train is all. lastly, any lunch/dinner recommendations for padova, verona, vicenza would be great as well. this forum is always full of wonderful people, always with great recommendations.
thanks

Look at La Taberna del Re Vallot at Via San Vitale 82. A reservation might be good, but might be okay without one if eating early. This is not in the main area of town but close to Basilica Santa Maria dei Servi. Don’t let the ‘distance’ fool you. It isn’t that far from Piazza Maggiore (maybe 15 minutes) and very walkable. We ate there twice our last stay in Bologna we enjoyed it so much. If you finish dinner by 9, you can easily make the 10pm train back to Venice., as it’s only about a 30 minute walk back to the station. It was not touristy at all last fall, so imagine that hasn’t changed. If you go and they have the creamy onion soup starter-YES!

Eight years ago the guide for my walking tour of Bologna mentioned that for young working people, it was very popular to munch on aperitivi (with drinks) before heading home and call that "dinner". She said there were many spots offering aperitivi. So that seems to be an option if for some reason your plan for a nice, sit-down dinner doesn't pan out.
