New Years Eve in Rome

We are traveling to Rome Dec 28-Jan 4 with our 3 daughters (age 20, 19, 16) - tips on where to celebrate on New Years Eve? Also, will crowds be huge this time of year for visiting the usual tourist sites and getting dinner reservations? Thanks for any advice!

We spent New Year's in Rome in 2019 and yes, the crowds over New Year's will be huge. We like to eat early so several times walked into pizzerias at opening time & only waited a few minutes, but we went EARLY. Trastevere for lunch on NY day was also jammed, so that would be a good day to have a lunch booking. Food walking tours are a nice change of pace, we loved the one we took in Testaccio & maybe you could make return dinner reservations while you're there? https://www.eatingeurope.com/rome/taste-of-testaccio/.

We also spent NYE in Rome in 2019 on a RS tour. It was a free night for us and I regret not doing the dinner our hotel was hosting. It was a traditional Roman NYE with many courses and entertainment. The tour members that went said it was mostly locals and lots of fun for their College age kids. . We were with our College/HS aged kids and had a hard
Time finding a spot for dinner. We wound up in an English pub near our hotel. It was fun to celebrate at our hotel roof top & hear the locals singing & fireworks at midnight
On NY’s day we did find places closed so I would book food reservations before you leave
