New Year's in Sorrento or Amalfi?

My daughter and I are going to Italy for 10 days after Christmas and will be on the Amalfi Coast for several days over New Year's. We enjoy being together and have been to Venice, Florence, Rome and Naples on prior trips. We don't have any specific plans but have a list of places to visit depending on how we feel and the weather each day. We will be relying on public transportation which we know will be less frequent and haven't decided if we will get a hotel room or apartment. I have been to Sorrento but am trying to decide if we should stay in Sorrento or Amalfi this time. I am especially interested if someone has a recommendation as to which of the two towns we should visit for New Year's Eve. I can't find too many specifics of what to expect this year besides the fireworks everywhere but understand from what I have been reading online that we might have better viewing of the fireworks along the coast from Sorrento but that Amalfi might have more "local" feel with folk band parades through the town on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

There will be a big party in Sorrento on NYE. Piazza Tasso will be shut to traffic and there will be live performances. As well as the townsfolk there will be lots of visitors from other parts of Italy, it is a popular Christmas/NYE destination. Here is a programme from a previous year to show you the sort of events put on by the town over the period.
