Are a few Venice museums and other major attractions typically open on New Year's Day? I am seeing contradictory information about this from previous years all over the Internet regarding Doge's Palace, Basilica San Marco, Accademia. I don't mind if hours are reduced, but we are thinking of extending our just-bought air tickets one more day to Jan. 2, 2022, if there are enough things to do on Jan. 1. Thank you!
All major attractions have official websites posting the hours and closings. You'd have to look that info up for each instead of all over the Internet. For example Gallerie dell’Accademia https://www.gallerieaccademia.it/en/info-visita#orari is closed on Xmas and New Years day. Churches or place of worship generally do not close.
I've spent about five New Year's days In Europe since 2015 and it is usually pretty quiet until afternoon after everyone partied New Years Eve
Rome was totally closed down on New Year’s Day when we visited in 2020. I would think Venice would be similar.
Thank you both commenters - this was helpful. We added the extra day on the front end of the trip, still departing Jan. 1.
