I am a new solo traveler. It’s been years since I’ve been to Europe. I’m traveling from LAX to JFK to Rome on to Palermo.
When I land in Rome to connect ( Delta) will I have to go through customs?

If this is all on one ticket, customs will be in Palermo.
Immigration/passport control will be in Rome. This is where you get your passport stamped.
Immigration and customs are two different things. Customs is for your stuff, immigration is for you.

Frank II answered your question but I just wanted to say congratulations on your upcoming solo trip! I've been traveling solo for the past 30 years or so, and love the experience. Italy is wonderful and a great place to travel solo to. You will find the locals friendly and helpful and there is so much to see and do there. Enjoy your trip!
