New Train Timetables

Hi,
I'm trying to create my itinerary for Italy for end of June/beginning of July. We're travelling between cities (Milan/Riomagiorre/Florence/Rome) and have been looking on the trenitalia website to figure out the timing. Apparently, the timetables for the trains change in June. Does anyone know if they tend to keep similar timetables? I'm trying to order museum tickets and need to determine if I'll be able to make it in time between cities.
Thanks,
Heather

Yes, they do. But don't cut it too close with things like non-refundable museum tickets. There can be disruption for a variety of reasons, and I'd hate for you to miss something important.

My experience is that the twice yearly changes are mostly minor adjustments when they find the the current schedule is not working quite right. Only rarely are there major changes, like discontinuance of a train, but it does happen.

Hi Heather. The 'timetable change in June' concept is misleading. But for your purposes you can pretty much ignore it. Most or all of your trains / timetables are available now - see trenitalia.com; (once you find your trains there, some people feel italiarail.com is more user friendly for purchase).
If you know your exact dates / times, you can buy any non-regional tix now for discounts; however discount tickets are generally not changeable; trenitalia will show restrictions for each fare. Note - do NOT buy tix for regional trains now; best to wait and buy those in Italy. Enjoy your trip!

If I may butt in on this train thread.....My family is going from Milan to Venice back to Verona and then Milan. Would the Venice to Verona and Verona to Venice legs be on regional trains? Thanks!

I'm trying to figure out something similar. We're travelling from Milan to Riomaggiore to Florence to Rome. Not sure if any of those are regional trains either. Let me know what you find out! :-)
Have a great trip!

cgo and torahweaver - look on trenitalia.com for your routes using a date about 5 days out (e.g. 17-04-2015). Use Italian city names e.g. Roma, Firenze. All trains will be shown, with train type. For any train showing regional or regional veloce, wait and buy tix in Italy. Any other type (frecciaxxx, intercity), you can buy tix online for discount IF you are willing to lock in your exact date and time. Once you see all train options by using 17-04-2015 date, then if you want to buy tix for your actual date, look again using that date. If your actual date is after mid June, your train may or may not be shown yet, but if it is, you can buy it now. Enjoy your trip!

Looks like Freccia and EC train schedules are out, waiting on IC and Regionale schedules. Verona-Venice can be done as a Freccia or EC train as well as a Regionale.

for the people butting in, the line between Milano and Venice, including Verona, has both high speed Freccia and InterCity trains as well Regionale and Regionale Veloce trains. Same for Florence to Rome.

Pick your speed and price point.

Which is more important to you, money or time?
