New June Train Schedule - ETA?

Does anyone know when the new summer train schedule will be issued? I am under 120 days (June 14) for the tickets I am looking to purchase, but the schedule has still not been released as far as I can tell.

For regional trains, that can go right up to the deadline. If your itinerary involves a combination of Freccia or IC trains along with regional trains and you want to take advantage of nonrefundable Supereconomy or Economy tickets, you can buy them as soon as they go sale, which might be now. These trains get scheduled well in advance. It is the regional trains that get held up because they are subsidized by the regional governments. Like all negotiations, they go down to the deadline. Since their prices don't change once posted, you can buy them later.

I am checking on a variety.

Rome to Riomaggiore (Cinque Terre)
Riomaggiore to Florence
Florence to Venice (high speed)

None of these are showing as available yet.

As Sam mentions, they can start to be released anytime. You may want to check every day-or-two if you have your mind set on a specific time and want to get the cheapest non-ref fare.

Yes, that's my plan. I do have specific days and times and want the best fares.

I have been checking each day. I just wondered if there was a specific release date. I guess not! :)

Thanks to both of you!

Yes, I see some (but not all) Freccia trains for the Florence-Venice scheduled but not yet available for purchase. Italotreno does not show schedules for beyond June 8 either. So it looks like you need to keep checking every week until they show up.

Since some of the regionals will be added last, look at purchasing Rome-La Spezia and La Spezia-Florence first, adding the regional part of the trip later. Some of the Florence-Venice are showing up to the 7th.

However, there is no advantage -- in fact, a little disadvantage -- to purchasing Regionale train tickets on line. If the Regionale train included with another ticket, then that is different but for just purchasing a ticket for a total Regionale train it is best to waiting until you can purchase it at a ticket machine or in person in the station.

Thanks again! I'll check into La Spezia instead of Riomaggiore.

My first ticket is for June 14, and the following are spread over the next 2 weeks.

I'd check in early May for the trains that offer discounted fares and forget about the locals up to june 3. Checking every week starting from late February seems a waste of time.

Trains do not sell out months in advance, there are discounted fares left on the Rome-LaSpezia train departing tomorrow morning.

Even if I agree with Frank about the best way to buy Regional tickets, remember that before getting on you must time-stamp only the locally purchased ones. If you get them on line you don't have to.
