New flights to Italy

From Frances Mayes' newsletter:
Suddenly the skies are friendly. The Local just published all the new flights to Italy—and there are many. This will take the heat off MXP, Malpensa in Milano and FCO, the Rome airport, and will make destinations easier to get to for many travelers.

The Local is an online newspaper that I, and most foreigners in Italy, subscribe to for info on changing laws, deadlines, taxes, politics, real estate, and special events. It’s published in other countries as well.

Check airlines for info. If not a Local subscriber, you’ll need the app for the article. But here are some of the new flights:

American Airlines: Chicago to Naples, Philadelphia to Milano

Delta Air Lines: JFK to Catania, Sicily, Minneapolis to Rome, Boston to Milan, Atlanta to Naples, Chicago to Naples

United Airlines: Denver to Rome, Newark to Palermo

Neos: JFK to Bari, Puglia

There are dozens of new flights within Europe, which makes connections out of London Heathrow and Paris Orly more flexible. For example, Volotea will be flying from Orly to Verona, Torino, and Alghero, Sardinia.

Good news!

For those west coast people KLM has added San Diego to Amsterdam which has really good connections via air and train around Europe. I think it's just 3 days a week to start but that how BA started and now they have 2 flights a day to London during the summer and fly year round.

Air France flies into SAN a couple of times a year but has not returned to service here. Maybe someday...

Happy Travels,

I'm surprised it took so long for someone to resume the flight from New York/New Jersey to Sicily. The now defunct Alitalia used to have such flight decades ago and Italians called it the "Mafia Express".
