There are new bus/Metro passes starting March 4. They are 24, 48 and 72 hours in duration and cost Euro 7, 12;50 and 18.00 respectively. The old one-day and three-day tickets will be eliminated as of April 30. Info here in Italian
I meant to post this last week, but my focus was elsewhere.
so a €1 price increase on the one day (although the 24hr-isness may help some get parts of 2 days from ticket) which works out at a 16.6666% price increase. ATAC a bit short?
Yes, ATAC needs the money. Still less expensive than some other major cities in Europe.
But we have never found a bus pass to be helpful in Rome since we generally stay in the Termini area and everything is within easy walking distance.
Rome is broke, ATAC is upside down, and no one will stand for an increase in the annual passes for residents, so stick it to the tourists. At least there are passes.
We walk everywhere too but there are people who simply can't do that so this is great information. Interesting about the addition of a 48-hour pass and book of 4 BIT tickets - not that individuals were difficult to purchase in the first place.
If I had one wish it would be that the ATAC site would work in English. It used to do that but they must have done a revamp at some point, and I haven't been able to get it to work since. I can figure it out but it would be helpful when trying to help other travelers.
have they also increased the single use ticket?
Laurel,
Thanks for posting that. It sounds like more-or-less the same passes as before, but with different names and higher prices. While it's never pleasant to have to deal with increased prices anywhere, the higher cost is tolerable. Such is life these days - higher costs for groceries, utilities, taxes, etc., etc......
Also in the transportation area, I see there's a rails strike scheduled for March 14 & 15.
Single ticket remains the same, not a bad price at Euro 1.50. Really the cost of transit tickets is far from the worst expense to increase, especially with the better exchange rate.
