New barricades in Rome?

I've been watching live webcams at Rome landmarks regularly in preparation for our visit there in September. Today I noticed that there are new barricades at several sites, including Trevi Fountain, the Obelisk of Ramses II near the Pantheon, and Bernini’s Fountain of the Ugly Boat near the Spanish Steps. I know there have been several incidents of vandalism at the popular tourist spots lately. I wonder if the barricades are a reaction.

I took a look, and yes, it seems the barricades are something new. Are they permanent? Don’t know. Time will tell. PS, I too look at webcams of places I will soon visit.

I just took a look (Skyline webcams are my favorite) and yes I see them. I hope they are not permanent, that would be sad. The first time we went to Paris in 2015 we could just walk up to the Eiffel tower, just a big open area coming from the Trocadero, the second time in 2017 there was a chain link fence around it and a security line we had to go through, things changed so fast.

I see the barricades are gone now. It must have been a one-off thing for whatever reason.

During past visits to Rome, we have seen barriers put up for political gatherings. Perhaps this was the reason.
