I visited Italy in September and purchased enough goods to qualify for the VAT Refund. I still haven't received my VAT Refund and think that maybe I put a different credit card number than what was used to purchase the items on the form in the airport. Is this the cause? Is there any way to get this refund still? I contacted Global Refund but they couldn't find the store in their archives, and asked for a DOC ID? I didn't receive any carbon copies, but I do have proof of the amount spent on my credit card statements. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Before anyone can really answer the question with any accuracy, need to know exactly what items you are requesting a refund for. Not all VAT is refundable.
It was leather goods (jacket and purses) at this store: Pelletteria Cuoieria Fiorentina Siena - via di Città, 68.
Steve, the form I filled out at the airport was for a CC refund but would they still give me a check? I'm not sure if Global Refund is the only org to process these refunds? It was what AmEx referred me to.
You should have taken cash at the airport- why deal with CC, when you can get cash right then and there.
Thanks. Cash wasn't an option.
I applied for my VAT refund on July 2nd at the Rome airport, to be refunded to my credit card. It finally showed up on October 31!!!
Oh wow. I read somewhere that it should only take a month. So I guess putting a different credit card number down doesn't matter?
The wheels turn oh so slowly in Italy. It probably hasn't been stamped 7 or 8 times yet! It is maybe just a little too soon to expect your VAT refund. Keep the home fires burning. It took 9 months to get a pedigree for a dog that I purchased while in Italy.
