Neighborhood to Stay for 2nd Visit to Rome

Hello-
I will be visiting Rome for 2 nights following a cruise at the end of April. I currently have the Albergo del Senato reserved for my stay but I keep debating if I want to switch to a different neighborhood. I don’t have any concerns about the hotel itself. I had visited Rome for a week with my mom about 5 years ago so I hit the major sites on the first trip. I would like to revisit the Borghese Gallery and also see the Basilica of San Clemente on this trip, but otherwise I’m hoping to enjoy a nice meal and do a little shopping. I also have some mobility concerns after breaking my leg in an accident so I will likely be using buses, the metro and cabs more than usual. Budget per night is up to $450. Any recommendations for neighborhoods or hotels to look at?

I would not change your reservation at Alberto de Senato. We have been to Rome many times and our favorite areas to stay are Pantheon and Piazza Navona.

I agree with Suki. The Pantheon area is a good location. Albergo del Senato is a very nice hotel. Closer to San Clemente is the Hotel Lancelot which we have stayed at on multiple occasions. Very nice hotel and staff. They have one of the best breakfasts that we have had at an Italian Hotel. Hotel Capo d'Africa is also a very nice hotel on the same street. We have not stayed there.
Both of these hotels are on a quiet street close to the Colloseo and not too far from Termini train station.

Don't forget to book your reservation at the Borghese.
Have a great trip!

We always stay in the Termini area -- Hotels Sonya, Aberdeen, & Contilla -- for convenience to transportation. Good restaurants but limited shopping. If coming off a cruises you most likely will take the train to Termini. Another advantage is that many of the bus routes pass through Termini so it is easy to find buses or trams headed that way.
