Neighborhood in Rome

This will be our 5th trip to Rome, and we've always stayed in Trastevere. I'm reluctantly thinking of a new neighborhood to rent an apartment in, and I'd love some ideas of somewhere that is similar in terms of nightlife and vibe. We get out and walk around all of Rome when we are there, so we are very familiar with the city, but does anyone have a place that they love that they can tell me about?

If you are looking for nightlife and vibe, I don’t think there is a better place than Trastevere. The other option is the Centro Storico (basically between Campo dei Fiori to Piazza di Spagna). That area is equally vibrant but accommodations are likely a bit more expensive.

We love the Testaccio neighborhood. Lots of local atmosphere and restaurants.

Many choices here, but we've stayed right around Campo de' Fiori each of the 3 times we've been in Rome. Gonna try it for 2-3 weeks early March 2027, really looking forward to it. We were there April of this year, and maybe because it was the Jubilee it was more crowded than I had ever seen it. Less people is better for me.

From there, Trastevere is a moderate walk and just fantastic. We've also walked to Prati. Otherwise we've taken the bus or Metro anywhere in the city we want to go. And...the Uber-like FreeNow app worked for us this April both time we've used it.

Prime area, maybe a little pricier, but to be able to walk virtually everywhere, including the block to the bus line to catch the 64 to Termini station. I don't think I'd ever get bored around there.

We've been to Rome 9 times and will be there again shortly. Our favorite place to stay has always been in Monti. Close enough to walk almost everywhere - but, while it's touristy near the Colosseum - its easy to walk a block or two and be in a real neighborhood with great restaurants, bars, shops etc. Whenever we've stayed elsewhere - we are always glad to come back to Monti.
