Need Vernazza lodging in June!

I have ordered the RS Cinque Terre info but am in a panic because it seems that lodgings are booking fast! WHERE does Rick (or you!) suggest we stay? It will be my husband and myself but now we are going to be hosting our Italian friend (40 year old woman) who will join us. We will need private sleeping area - 2 rooms or 2 bedroom apt? We should be receiving the RS info in about a week but I'm worried we may lose out on a place to stay if I dawdle much longer. HELP! ...and Grazie ;-) Meanwhile I will scour the forum for similar posts.

I would start with Vrbo.com and cross-pollinate.com and look for 2 bedroom apartments. another option is booking.com. Good luck!

Thanks, Steven. I have checked VRBO but haven't heard of cross-pollenate... (I'll get the spelling right when I do it.) I also checked airbnb with some interesting results. Kinda scary but I'm careful! I appreciate the tips and will continue my search. We are so used to "American" hotels and need to get the RS mindset!

Thanks, Bob. I searched the archives and found your post from a few years (?) back... have been in contact with her and it looks great! The only thing that concerns me is the fact that it's so high up in the city (GREAT VIEWS). Does that mean oodles of steps every day to get to restaurants and shops? Language is an issue but we're working it out. TIME difference is also making it tricky but that, too, won't be a problem once we settle on the rooms we need. Getting lodging for 3 people - a couple and single gal who is not family - is a little tricky! Luckily, our single gal is Italian so I'm handing over the booking and deposits to her! :-) Grazie for your suggestion!

Don't panic! Rooms fitting your description are not necessarily going to sell out in the next week. Availability can change both ways, and owners of smaller properties may still be on winter vacation.

Are you absolutely committed to staying in Vernazza? If you're unable to find lodgings there, you might have a look at Monterosso. It's the largest of the five towns and therefore has the greatest number of lodging choices.

To reiterate Laura's comment, the C.T. is closed for the season so the owners may not be checking their E-mail on a regular basis. It's good that you're getting an early start on this, as June will likely be busy.

Thanks all of you who have responded. I appreciate and will heed all of your comments. We have booked a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment in Vernazza. The owners sound absolutely wonderful so I am sure it will be great. When we return in late June, I will TRY to give an update. They are listed on Booking.com as well as airbnb.com if you want to check it out. I hope it's OK to put the booking.com link here:

I did as Steve suggests and contacted them directly: [email protected]
We will be staying in Castello - la tua casa a Vernazza. The "sister" property is called Carugio. Carugio sounds like it sleeps more but the configuration would have been odd for our situation, traveling with someone who is not family. She is Italian and spoke to Francesco today and is very happy with our decision - especially about having a kitchen. Do you suppose SHE will cook?!
Bob: Elisabetta's place was a very close second and one where my husband and I would probably have chosen if it was just the 2 of us. Thank you very much for that tip! She was fast to respond and I told her "Bob" referred us. I received LOTS of replies from other places in Monterosso (most were more expensive) but we wanted the slower paced area of Vernazza if possible. I am so glad I read these forums to realize that it was time to do this NOW rather than later... now we have to get our air. ugg.
