We are planning on taking a Mediterranean cruise in November that leaves from Venice. We plan on arriving 2 days before the cruise to spend a little time in Venice, having never been there before. Can anyone recommend a hotel near St. Mark's Square that will accommodate a family of four? Also, what are the "must'-see" sites?
We very much enjoyed the Hotel Flora, a short walk from St. Mark's. We had a very large room with 1 double bed, 1 single bed and they brought in another bed (perhaps a rollaway) for my son. Very nice, very friendly, easy to get to.
Kristin,
We are also a family of four staying in Venice for 2 nights in May. We have a reservation for an apartment (much roomier, inexpensive, etc.) at http://www.vrbo.com/222660. Eva, the owner, has been extremely helpful! The apartment is in the Castello neighborhood which is near St. Mark's.
Thanks for the replies! I will be looking into both suggestions!
Cindy,
Thanks for the info. I just pulled it up and it looks great. We are going to be there during low season so I will definitely look into it. I had only thought hotels since it would only be for 2 days but great idea!
Thanks,
Kristin
Kristin, most of us who love Venice recommend wandering the city itself as the most important 'must see site.' Try to stay away from the crowded Piazza San Marco area during the middle part of the day. Once the daytrippers leave, the city is very quiet and magical.
