Need to validate train tickets in Italy?

Hi there, i am planning to get tickets on the Frecciarossa train for some of my travels within Italy. While I am able to select seats, do i need to validate tickets before boarding the train?

Thank you in advance for sharing.

No, you do not need to validate these because you have a specific seat on a specific train. You only need to validate "open" tickets bought in Italy for regional trains.

Simple rule, if the ticket is only valid on one train, if it already lists the train on it, then it does not need validating. This applies to all high speed trains, and all self-print or App tickets bought on the internet.
If you have selected seats, obviously that ticket is only valid for those seats on that train.

If you have a paper ticket without a specific train listed on it, you need to validate it (timestamp it). These tickets are valid on any train and this is to stop you using the same ticket twice. This applies to paper tickets for Regionalle trains (local trains).

However, Regionale train tickets purchased and printed on-line come prevalidated. That generally means that you have a four window to use the Regionale trickets. For example it will be printed on the ticket that is valid from 800 to 1200 or 1000 to 1400, etc. That ticket cannot be validate because only good for that day and that time frame. I generally recommend not to purchase Regionale train tickets on line just for that reason.
