Need suggestions on day trips from Florence

We will be in Venice for 2 days, Florence for 4 days and Sorrento for 4 days. What are some suggestions for day trips out of Florence to Tuscany and the best way to get there without driving; possibly small group tours.

Thank you for your suggestions.

From Florence Siena is a nice day out, as is Pisa/Lucca (Pisa doesn't need that much time, so you can cover both if you gat an early start). All can be reached on public transport quite easily.

Make sure you leave enough time to do Florence itself justice, so much to see and do.

I haven't taken a tour, but Tours by Roberto gets great reviews for trips to a few towns, including lunch.

You could easily go to Lucca and Pisa in a day by train and/or bus, on your own.

A popular bus-tour combination is San Gimignano and Volterra, I think. I've always just used public transportation but could be tempted by a small-group tour that hits a number of tiny hill towns that would otherwise require a rental car. Places like Siena, Lucca and Pisa are easy by bus or train, so it seems a shame to tie yourself to a tour schedule if that's where you decide to head.

We took 2 tours with WalkAboutFlorence and they were both amazing. We did THE BEST OF TUSCANY and CHIANI WINE & FOOD SAFARI. You can check them out on TripAdvisor and read about them on the WALKABOUTFLORENCE website - if you decide to book, do so on the website, no need to go thru TripAdvisor which uses a 3rd party booking company. If you have time for 2 tours, they are both totally worth it.

A trip to Siena or Pisa can be done by train. Pisa has a pleasant little walk from the station to the tower, well-signed from what I remember, and I stopped at a restaurant on the way back for a quick meal.

Siena is outstanding, I spent two nights there and loved it. You will need some sort of transport to get from the station to near the tourist attractions. I took a bus to my hotel, which was near the tourist area, and the walk was easy. Best food on my trip to Italy came in Siena and Florence.
