Need suggestions on blog for a year in Italy

Thank you to all who so kindly gave me advice and tips to get me here. Embarking on a year life sabbatical in Italy.

I'm ready to set up my blog so you can all follow. But I'm stumped. What is the website/blog name?? It's giving me night terrors!!!

After navigating five years including divorce after 29 years (my choice), going on dates thst included "mole man," "lying rancher," "oxygen man," and "Popo the stalko" I quit trying to date.

It was more important to care for my beloved daddy through his end of days. He taught me so much. Including advice to go. Go now. When you end up in a hospital bed and know you won't ever leave, all you have are the precious memories that give you smiles and happiness. So I'm going. For me. For my daddy. For everyone who dreams.

Come on!!! Give me some ideas!!!

IMHO, your blog title is in your post ("For everyone who dreams"). Or if you'd like the Italian route, sogni di mio padre (dreams of my father). Just play around with Google translate to get the Italian version of whatever you come up with.

Bon voyage and congratulations on this big adventure. I'd like to follow along (PM me the blog address when you land on it). :)

Based on the description you provided, the first thing that comes to mind is "Daddy's Girl". I'll have to ponder this for awhile.

Txgirl,

  • A year in Italy...my dream at last!

  • 'Life is not a dress rehearsal' ... go after your dream!

  • 'Life is not a dress rehearsal' ... live your dream! or 'Life is not a dress rehearsal' ...living my dream!

I'm sure you will think of some great titles...

EDIT: Here are a few others:

  • Living my dream... my life in Italy
  • Dream, Plan, Go!
  • A life...A Dream... A journey...
  • Capture your dream... treasure the memories...
  • Living in a dream... in Italy

If any of us give it to you, it won't be yours.
You don't have to start it today.
You don't have to name it today.
Even if you do, you can always change it. Make it up as you go (look up the song by the same name: Plain White T's).

I agree with Kathy, the name has to just sort of come to you, so it's YOURS.

I also agree to write, then the name will come.

Anything other than "Under the Tuscan Sun" is available :) But, may your dream play out just as nicely :)

....and you could always write it in Jake's voice....sort of a Jake's take on mom's big year in Italy.

(....or not!!! :)

What a wonderful account so far txgirl620. I would love to be able to access your blog when you get it up and running, so you will have to let us know how to access it. I am anxious to know how your trip to Andrea Bocelli's concert , next month goes, and where you are finally staying for the trip there. I am sad that I am not able to be there this year, but I have memories of many concerts in Lajatico (I can draw on those). I believe that you are living many of our dreams with a year in Italy. If I was a little younger (over 70 now), I might be tempted to sell my home and give it a try. Some of us will have to live though your adventure! Enjoy every experience!

don't overthink it. Keep it simple and clear enough so people know what you're talking about. " Living in Italy-making my dream come true" is simple and to the point. it tells people right away what you're going to be writing about.

I would definitely include all prior posts relating to getting all your ducks in order before actually going. All the legal ramifications and hoops you had to go through. Go back to them and expand. What you packed, what you left behind, how you shipped things over. Why you shipped some things and passed up others. Keep it very personal.
Are you planning on working, how you decided to stay where you stay, how you decided on your modes of transportation, how you shop, sizes of apartments and how that dictates how you live.

Sometimes bloggers being detailed in their day to day life because they fear boring their readers. Believe me, we wouldn't be there after the third or fourth post if we were'nt interested.
Talk about your day to day life, traveling within Italy( nothing I hate more than reading about Italy bloggers' travels to other countries, what you eat, where you drink, how you shop.
Most of us that will follow you will do so because we are also interested in doing what you are doing, so lay it on.
And the best of luck

This sounds like an amazing adventure and great idea. I would love to read this blog or go on such an adventure! I've only been to Italy once, but I believe I have fallen in love with it. I much like the idea of a choice in Italian. Perhaps a line from a song or movie in Italian that is meaningful somehow to you? At least there are many to choose from. I wish I had more ideas!

Hi,
Please just be aware of our Community Guidelines with regard to promoting one's blog. Pretty much the only place where we allow that is in the About Me section of your profile, and that's only if it goes unadvertised in your regular posts here. So, now for those who wish to follow txgirl, I've hopefully just let you know where you can look when txgirl is ready to share. Or, txgirl, you are welcome to share your content (not your blog) in the Trip Reports section.

How about 'sogni d'oro', which means 'golden dreams' in Italian and is often used to wish friends and family goodnight.

Thank you to all on this site who have given me great advice and information.
You were right --- the name just needed to come to me and it did.
This year in Italy is because of my dad and the inspiration and wisdom he gave to me in his final days.
I will PM those that have expressed an interest an I'll update my profile as well.
Still in the paperwork stage to be registered here in Orvieto ..... my goodness it is a complicated process to live here longer than 90 days!
Ciao!
Catherine

I would love to follow your blog too!
Will you study Italian while you're there? There are a couple of good language schools in Orvieto.
