Hey folks, I'm in Rome for another 11 days and have seen all the things in Rome, so I'm looking for your suggestions on things that are "off the beaten track". Any suggestions for day trips before I leave for Florence?
Dena,
One possibility would be a day trip to Orvieto. It's only an hour or so north of Rome by train, and quite an interesting hill town. Depending on what's open at this time of year, you could visit the Duomo, take the Underground tour or have a look at St. Patrick's Well.
Happy travels!
Ostia Antica is Rome’s ancient port and an easy day trip from Rome.

Here are many side trip possibilities from Rome, Cerveteri & Tarquinia, Fregene, Ostia, Palestrina, The Castelli Romani, Tivoli & the Villas and Viterbo.

Pompeii and Vesuvius could be done as a day trip - a long day - but doable.
What a wonderful problem to have! We loved Ostia Antica and Hadrian's Villa. On our future "to see" list, you'll find Villa d'Este, Appian Way, catacombs and Orvieto.
Tivoli is a wonderful small hill town you could do as a day trip - it is absolutely beautiful just driving up to it and the town itself is equally nice - if you go try to visit Villa d'Este.
