Need Suggestion for Days After South of Italy Tour

We are taking the RS South of Italy tour in April/May next year which ends in Naples. We want to find a destination for 4 nights before we fly home from Rome. We won’t have a car, it’ll be my husband and myself. Any suggestions?

What are you interests?
Do you want more touring or just to chill out?
That tour only has 2 Rome at start, you will want to be in Rome the night before your departure so maybe just go back to Rome?
Other ideas-
train to Florence for 3 nights then back to Rome for 1
Sorrento for another 2 then Rome for 2

You can take direct trains from Naples to Florence or Orvieto (3h 15m). Orvieto is closer to Rome than Florence and you could take a bus to Civita di Bagnoregio (30-minutes) for the day that makes a nice day trip from Orvieto. However, if you’ve never been to Florence, now is your time to go. If going to Florence, you want to reserve tickets for the Uffizi Gallery at least two months out.

I should have given more info, we will have had 5 nights in Rome at the beginning of the tour and it will be our 2nd time there. We have been to Florence before. We love to sightsee and learn but don’t want all 4 days to be going, going. RS tours are busy and doing a bit of not getting up at the crack of dawn sounds good.

Naples would be a blast if you like cities, if you don't, then there are numerous places on and around the Amalfi Coast that would be nice. Whatever gets short shrift on the tour perhaps? How about Ischia (soaking in hot springs after all that walking) or Procida (smaller, low key island)? Depending on the departure time, it will probably have to be three nights, then a night in Rome or near the airport.

For a smaller city, Salerno is pleasant, allows you to revisit the Amalfi Coast and travel south to sites such as Paestum.

I think Mary Pat's idea of Orvieto (if you have not been before) is a great idea. From Naples the train is 3.5 hours so 1/2 day is gone, by the time you take the funicular up to the town and to your hotel. Also you would lose a 1/2 day travelling back to Rome and to stay at a hotel there before flying out home. Orvieto -Day 1 Explore the town in the afternoon of arrival. Day 2 --Take a bus the next day to Civita - 1 hr. and walk the bridge going to Bagnoregio. Day 3 There is a train that takes you Chuisi (north) 1 hour and then a bus 1hr to Multipulciano . Day 4 Relax and wander around the view walks of Orvieto. Just a suggestion.
