I am looking for suggestions for a nice hotel....with sea view...for stay at the end of October for 2 adults.. I'm looking for a 4star hotel...room with a balcony and central location. I can spend up to $300 per night. I usually stay in an apartment when I travel and I have booked one above the city for my trip but I am beginning to have second thoughts and think that I may be better off in a hotel for this trip as I can rely on the hotel staff to assist with day trips I want to take. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Grand Hotel de La Ville

Fantastic views, beautifully appointed rooms. Excellent bkft
Easy walk to town and train station
Ambasciatori, similar and same parent company owner. Worthwhile splurge, icy air conditioning. Note some closures may start in the area late in the season. Fewer ferries, too.
Thank you Christine and Tim for your replies. Yes..I realize that we will be in Sorrento at the end of the "season"...that is a good thing as far as I am concerned as I think it will certainly be less crowded. This is part of the reason I believe that help from the hotel concierge or other staff will be useful in helping us get around.
Another nice hotel in Sorrento is
Antiche Mura
Won’t have the sea view but a really good location and beautiful grounds -might better fit your budget

I feel certain that the Ambasciatori has good guest services. However, we mainly used the lobby desks to book their partner for car services, like "8 hours on the AC". (Driver, no certified guide requested.) I only mention this so you make clear exactly how independent you want to be - so you get the best advice.
Some people find the Ambasciatori to be "away" from downtown, but we enjoyed the walk to and from dinner every night. Less crowded Passeggiata sort of crowd, looking over the free cliff views along the way. MAYBE it will be cheaper because of that. I'll also note that they had an annoying (to me, anyway) scheme for providing large "hotel only" credits, rather than discounting the room rates directly. So we had one (perfectly fine) dinner at the hotel that we would not otherwise have had.
The Ambasciatori has many sizes of balcony, so think about size vs. price. The very biggest have "plunge pools" on them, but we never filled ours. But it was plenty hot enough in May. Really nice (regular size) pool deck with trellises and views. Sea bathing boardwalk at base of cliff, private, reached by indoor hotel elevator. Bar or cafe down there, but maybe not in October??
We love Hotel La Tonnarella, have stayed there two times for a week each time. They have a private beach, a very good restaurant, a great breakfast buffet, terrasses, and incredible views.
Free pkng and easy walk into center of town.
Send an email to owner Elizabeth, I'm sure she knows the owners of every hotel on the Amalfi coast and can offer good suggestions (and perhaps call on your behalf to get you a favor)
We stayed at Maison La Minervetta for a couple of nights last year and absolutely loved it! It was a bit of a spurge, and perhaps more than your $300/nt threshold, but I can't imagine a nicer place. Really helpful, attentive staff, the most amazing included breakfast on a private terrace with $1 million view, and one-of-a-kind eclectic rooms, all perched on a cliff looking north over the bay with Vesuvius looming in the distance.
Susan,
We are staying at your hotel for five nights in May, and am very excited! Have day trips and transportation all planned. Any special tips?
Thx
Hotel Imperial Tramontano. I’m sitting in my room watching a ferry return from Capri as I write this. I can see the whole Bay of Naples. Four star. Lovely gardens. Cliff edge. In town. I used Chase points, but I think it’s in your price range.
Pat, our first stay we had a private terrasse, it was amazing. But those rooms are expensive. Second stay we had a patio with a view of Capri. No tips though. Just enjoy!
Thank you all for your suggestions. I have booked at the Grand Hotel de la Ville. It looks just perfect for me. I am looking forward to exploring this area of Italy.
I have a great alternative for you - Villa Crawford. It’s a convent, but you would not guess it. And it’s out of town, but on a main bus line. You absolutely cannot beat the views from the patio, which sense right on the Tyrrhenian sea with use of Mount Vesuvius. We had an excellent dinner at the restaurant there, although I’ve heard some complaints, but we had a fabulous experience with great food! In the evening, there’s a waiter, who serves drinks out on the patio. The staff was super friendly, the rooms were basic, but very clean and relatively spacious. I would stay there again, in a heartbeat!
