Need some tips for navigating Mt Etna (for oldsters)

My husband and I were in Sicily a few years ago in October (ages 69 or 70) and took the full day Mt Etna Wine and Alcantara tour from Etna People. https://www.etnapeople.com/excursions-etna/etna-tours/
Our tour departed from Taormina. We enjoyed it very much and did not find it too strenuous. Etna People does have some tours that are shorter in length. Remember there is some driving time to get from Taormina to Mt. Etna and back -- at least an hour or more each way if I am remembering correctly.

I would keep my options wide open. Mt. Etna is being very active lately.

This is not until next spring. Hoping things will quiet down a bit!

I second Etna People- we have used them twice for a half day walk on Etna- once from Taormina and once from Catania. It's about the same distance from either tho you will be on different sides of the mountain.

CatVH, have you done it from both sides? Which do you think is better?

Yes we have! Both were good, altho I think the area they took us to from the Catania side had better views. Also, when we did the Catania side it was early April this year- a similar time to when you are propsing to go. There was still snow! But you are able to hire boots, jackets, etc from them directly. When we visited the other time it was in September and there was no snow and we didn't need to hire any jackets (that time we brought our own walking shoes).
