We are doing an e-bike trip that goes from Bologna to Modena, Reggio Emilia ending in Parma. From Parma, we will train to Venice for 4 nights. We have one night before Venice and would like to overnight in a town prior to Venice. We are going to Verona after Venice. What recommendations do people have? Thinking it might be fun to stay in a smaller village. Thank you for your suggestions!
I would recommend Vicenza with all the amazing Palladio buildings. Do not miss The Teatro Olimpico! The town has a small, walkable area we enjoyed on a day trip and very easy to get to from the train station. One of the gems of the Veneto.
I like Vicenza, but there's more sightseeing variety in Padua (which also has more to see than Verona). Rick covers all three cities in his guidebook.
We are also interested in Verona, Vicenze and even Padua, which one of you just recommended.
We want to stay somewhere 'outside' of the actual cities, in a bit more of the countryside but within driving distance of the cities.
We are looking for some local travel guides that can help us find accommodation as Rick's guides tend to be more city-oriented. We'll have a car.
Any ideas?
