Need one-night Milan hotel with great location and easy Malpensa transportation

Hi,all,
You all convinced us we need to get to Milan the day before our international flight home to USA.

Therefore, I would like recommendations for a hotel in Milan old town, with easily-accessed airport transportation. I know that some hotels require two-night minimums, so that won't work.
[And, no, we aren't doing the Last Supper on this trip.]

Thanks to all.

Candidly, there is no easy access to MXP from old town to the airport other than the €50 cab ride or a private driver. There is, however, a relatively new member of the Marriott chain which is super convienent at T2; you can walk from the train stop to the hotel, and the next morning it's a short walk to the bus stop that will take you to T1. I would suggest that you spend the day in Milan, have dinner, and hop either the last Malpensa Express or the one just before it for €10 and take the train to its last stop and stay there.

I'd stay near Cadorna station, it's a nice area and the airport trains from Cadorna take less than those from Centrale.

A 13 € train is easier and less risky than a 90 € cab (50?) that can get stuck in Milan's notorious traffic. More, I bet that if you'll stay in an airport hotel you'll end up dining there. Check the MXP express schedules on www.malpensaexpress.it/en/

I don't get the reason to write there is no easy access from the "old town" (?) when there are 2 direct trains that leave from the main stations and that call at both Terminals.

Pat,

I recently stayed at Hotel Garda near Milano Centrale. Hotel Berna is another popular hotel by many here and it’s just across the street from Hotel Garda.
You can easily get to the historic center via Metro or tram from there.

You can get to Malpensa on the Malpensa Express train from Milano Centrale. I’d suggest buying your tickets the day before. Don’t forget to validate your train tickets prior to boarding the train.

Have a wonderful trip!

From the Cadorna station it is a faster ride, Cadorna is near the historical center (Duomo, La Scala, Galleria) and to the Castello Sforzesco.
I also agree that if you end up staying near the airport, you’ll end up eating at the hotel and forget about going to Milan.

Pat,

I note that you've already booked Hotel Berna, but here's another suggestion for future reference.

You could also stay near Milano Cadorna station which is also served by the Malpensa Express (but with a shorter travel time than from Centrale). That area is close to some major sights including the Duomo, Sforzesco Castle and the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuele. There's also Via Dante which is a pedestrian street with many shops, restaurants, etc. (a bit touristy but still nice). One hotel that I've used in that area is London Hotel, and I found that to be very comfortable and in a good location.

Near Cadorna Station, Antica Locanda Leonardo, set back from street, quiet, good choice.

I like the Berna - I hope you do too. Even if they put you in the (even nicer, IMHO) Annex across the street. Let us know....

Pat,
I stayed at Hotel Berna and was very pleased with it. The staff were helpful and the hotel is a few blocks walk from the Centrale train station.
