Need Medical Assistance in Rome

Two weeks ago I fell down the stairs in my AirBNB in Siena and went to the ER to get stitches in my right elbow. I’m now in Rome and need to get the stitches removed but have no idea where to go. Does anyone know how I find where to go and even what type of doctor to search for? I was told in Siena that I shouldn’t come back to an ER to have them removed.

Thanks!!!

There are quite a few urgent care clinics in Rome with English speaking doctors. You might try just searching for one on line near you.

Seriously
All pharmacies have nurses on staff
Any nurse can remove sutures

I don’t believe you need urgent care or a doctors office
You do not need a doctor for this

Make it easy on yourself
There are pharmacies on most every corner
Stop in and ask

My husband gashed his arm while in London. We were on our way to the Chunnel and sought medical attention the next day in Bayeux France. He received stitches and 10 days later (when we would be in Milan)and the stitches were to come out, we were told to call a “service” which would come to the Airbnb. Instead, I removed the stitches myself using a sterile kit purchased at the pharmacy. Everything went well and I did have RN instructions from my relative in the States. All good!

If I had spoken Italian I probably would have called a service. But, I learned I could do this with some help from YouTube and my relative!! Am ready if this ever happens again!!

Unless OP has help it might be difficult removing sutures from his/ her own elbow!

And yes anyone can remove sutures with the right equipment/ instructions

Any doctor (or nurse) can remove them. Ask for a list of doctors from the US Consulate in Rome (Via Veneto). You might be able to google them too.

No need to do it on your own. But I guess given the cost of health care in the US after Home Depot we will have Health Depot, for some DIY surgeries to do at home on weekends.
