If you know Italian, I need your help! When I go to the website "scioperi.mit.gov.it" to check on Italian railroad strikes, I see that there appears to be a rail strike on 10/09/2015 (Sept 10). I will be traveling from Milian to Varenna on that date. Could you take a look and let me know if that strike affect passenger traffic and would impact my train travel? Thanks so much for your help! I tried Google translation on it, but it did not clarify what the strike was. It appeared to say it was a "national strike" but I am sure I am over reacting to the translation.
Freight trains strike beginning on Sept. 10th at 9pm, so you can feel relieved.
Note that Trenord (the society running regional trains in Lombardy) goes on strike on Sept. 12th at 9pm for 24 hours (so actually most of the strike is on Sept. 13th).
Hi, there is a train strike, but it is not clear yet how it will affect travel.
However, it starts on the 10th at 9pm, and lasts until 9pm of the 11th, making it better for you that are traveling on the 10th.
Wow, thanks for the quick responses! This Forum is amazing. Ask a question and receive a quick answer. Thanks again!
yosemite,

Strikes can sometimes be cancelled so it's worthwhile to check on a regular basis.
Note that you'll be using TreNord trains for the trip from MIlano Centrale to Varenna-Esino. If you're traveling on the 10th, you should avoid that one, but the return trip may be a problem. BE SURE to validate your tickets prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or you'll risk hefty fines! You may want to buy your return tickets from Varenna while in Milan as well, as the ticket facilities in Varenna are "limited" (there is a helpful travel agency there that sells tickets if needed).
Good luck!
"Trenitalia divisione Cargo" and "trasporto merci" should suggest that only freight trains will be affected.
I'm going to briefly hijack this thread and ask about the strike(?s) on the 12th-13th of September. I'm not having a lot of luck with interpreting the website. We're scheduled to travel from Cinque Terre to Venice that day, and we're changing trains in Parma and Bologna. The Parma-Bologna and Bologna-Venezia legs are on Freccia trains (bianca and argento, respectively), but the La Spezia-Parma leg is a regionale train. I'm assuming that we'll miss the TreNord strike, but there's also a strike listed for the region of Tuscany that I'm less certain of. Under categoria, it states "PERSONALE SOC. TRENITALIA DI MACCHINA E DI BORDO DIR. REG.LE TOSCANA EX COMPARTIMENTO DI FIRENZE."
Can someone help me with what this means and whether it means that I need to start looking for an alternate way to get to Venice that day?
PS, by "that day" I mean the morning of September 13.
