You may not get many comments. You've done your homework well.
Pamelapattysmith,
10/11 - 10/14: In Tuscany (Agritourismo place to be determined)
I see you will be traveling to Tuscany but do you plan to visit/ stay in Florence during those 4 nights you have set aside for Tuscany.
Your itinerary looks great but I'd suggest the following changes:
I would take one night from Venice & add it to Florence.
travel from Venice to Florence.
After visiting Florence, I'd take train to CT then rent a car in La
Spezia & drive to your next destination in/ around Tuscany.I'd return car in Orvieto or Rome (unless you choose to drive all the way to
Sorrento) then take train to Naples, then to Sorrento, AC... then continue to Rome.
Keep in mind that 2 nights = 1 full day to explore, 3 nights= 2 full days, 4 nights= 3 full days & so on.
Also each day that you relocate you will lose about half of that day ( checking in, getting situated to new location, etc, then checking out, getting to train station, wait for train, travel time, walk/taxi/boat to new hotel, check-in, unpack.... you get the idea...)
So your itinerary would look something like this:
Venice (3 Nights) > train to Florence (3-4 N) > train to CT ( 2-3N) > rent car in La Spezia > drive to hill towns in Tuscany/ Umbria/Lazio (4N) > Naples, Sorrento, AC (4N) > Rome (4N).
Have a wonderful trip!
Your plan looks good. If you get tired of daytime in Venice, take a daytrip to Padova or Verona.
I'd take a night from the CT and add it to Sorrento. Looks like a great trip! Enjoy!!
If you don't mind early departures go for the earliest train from Venice to CT since it's about 5 hours of your day. We took a 7am train out of Venice, and were up earlier to be at the train station and use the vaparetto (no issues for us). We arrived in the CT in time for lunch. I did sleep some on the train.
