need ideas about Lido

My wife and I are traveling to Venice for a few weeks in a few weeks. We are spending 4 days on Lido. Is this merely a suburb of venice or are there nice things to do there. Looking for tips on what to see, what to do, Where to eat. Any insights would be helpfull. Thanx in advance. Steve

You're going to be in Venice for several weeks? I envy you. Anyway, we stayed on the Lido for three nights this past May when we went to Venice for our third time. Photos here: Lido di Venezia May 2011 It's a lot like a suburb of Venice and it's nowhere near as interesting. (We decided to stay there because we got an outstanding deal on a hotel. Previously we had stayed in Venice proper, which I still recommend to people esp. for their first visit.) The beach in May wasn't anything to write home about. There are a few decent restaurants and lots of crappy ones. Ristorante Gran Viale was good, and you'll need reservations. http://www.ristorantegranviale.it/ There isn't really all that much to do there. It's got some nice views back toward Venice, as you'll see from my pictures, but you may end up getting bored. Be sure to get a vaporetto pass.
