Need hotel room near fiumicino airport for one night

Has anyone stayed near the fiumicino airport? Our flight leaves at 5:55 a.m. and we are planning on our last night staying close to this airport, since we won't be there all that long we'd like to pay a more reasonable price. Thanks

Doesn't every tourist in Rome want to "pay a more reasonable price"??? Unfortunately, Rome is an expensive city, and if you sleep in Rome you will pay the price.

There is a Hilton attached to FCO Airport, but the prices are high and the accomodations get mediocre reviews on www.tripadvisor.com

We opted to stay our lst night in Rome where we had a full day of sight seeing, had a nice dinner, and packed at our leisure. We used Roma Shuttle (romashuttle.com) to take us to FCO for our 6:30 AM flight. Where we were staying in Rome was cheaper than an airport hotel for 4. We booked the shuttle on-line before leaving for the trip.

The hotels at Fiumicino know why you are staying with them. "Reasonable" may not always be available. It's a sellers market out there. Of course, Margaret's idea is excellent. Stay for less in Rome and take an early Roma Shuttle to the airport. One way or another, you'll pay an extra 40-60Euro for having to get to the airport early. It's either at a Fiumicino hotel or a shuttle.

Here's a post from Greg from Kentwood, MI earlier this year:

"If your looking for a clean bed, with a no frills hotel then try either the Mach 2 Hotel or the Cancelli Rossi Hotel. They are both near FCO, less than 2 miles, they both have shuttle service to FCO and the rates are a little over 100 euro per night. I stayed at both hotels and either is fine, although the Mach 2 is my preference. Both Hotels have a three star rating."

Note that at 3:00am in the morning, the hotel may have to call in their shuttle.

Also be aware that just because a hotel advertises an airport shuttle does NOT mean that it is free nor that it is available 24 hours.

We use the Hilton. Once we get settled we hop the free shuttle into the city center and spend the evening wandering (usually into Piazza Navona) then back on the last shuttle. They have a deal where you can pay in advance and save some money.

Keep in mind that it can and does take more than 2 hours in the morning to get checked in at FCO - even at 6 am.

Thank you to everyone who replied, all good information. If our plane leaves at 5:55 a.m.
Do we need to be at the airport at 2:00 or 3:00 a.m.?

I suppose I like the idea of just staying in Rome and paying the price to get to the airport in the early am.

If your flight is travelling to another European city, you only need to be at the airport about 1 to 1.5 hours before the flight. If you have a flight directly back to the states, you should be there at least 2 hours ahead. We had a 6:30 flight that went to Lisbon. We were at the airport at 5:30 and checking in without any trouble. We flew TAP so lines were pretty short. The Lufthansa lines were much longer.

Thanks Margaret, our flight goes from Rome to Amsterdam then a layover before flying back to Minnesota. So I guess if we were at the airport around 5:00 a.m. we should be ok? We are flying on
northwest.

5:00 may be cutting it a little close, but you'll probably be OK. Check in for us (Americans) was longer that the folks only going to Lisbon. But Security was quick. We also didn't have any lugage to check, so that helped.
